The White Queen: Can you do addition? What's one and one and one and one and one and one and one and one and one and one?
Alice: I don't know. I lost count.
I thought I was good at math. Somewhere along the way, I lost count too. Of what, though?
The Duchess: Be what you would seem to be -- or, if you'd like it put more simply -- Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.
Humpty-Dumpty had a great fall..
Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
The Cat: Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
Alice: How do you know I'm mad?
The Cat: You must be. Or you wouldn't have come here.
This is crap. Don't look for a thread of reason. There isn't one.

This is the beauty about Alice in Wonderland..so many conversations that reflect so perfectly on the absurdities in life..another one:
Caterpillar: Who are YOU?
Alice: I...I hardly know, sir, just at present...at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.
Yeah. Such a complicated assortment of thoughts!
The thread of reason is that you identify yourself with Humpty-Dumpty
I thought u were doing projects
Really? I know I did Say that, but surely I thought you trusted me more...
Go work hard and earn lots of money. You have 3 mouths to feed (yours, mine and Aishu's, who is engrossed in doing a crossword on Poirot currently).
Wonderful post... gosh makes me want to go back and read that book again.
BTW despite not having a thread, or even a humpty-dumpty-identifying one, it really is one of the best posts I have read on anyone's blog recently - plus, I am pretty verbose as well, so I tend to like long sentences.
@ barty- Thanks..really flattering.
Writing 12 research papers a year doesn't leave you with a choice but to be verbose :)
